Description
The Capital City Bikeway will be extended along Wabasha Street to the Capitol in 2027. This project will extend the existing Wabasha Street bikeway to 10th Street, cross Interstate 94 on St Peter Street, and connect with the Capitol grounds on 12th Street. The bikeway will connect with the John Ireland Boulevard bike lanes and the planned bikeway on Rice Street.

    Fall 2025 Status

Throughout the months of October, November, and December 2025 the project team will be refining the preferred concept design. We are doing this using feedback gleaned this summer, new feedback gleaned this fall, and technical engineering constraints. These project materials are the basis for this phase of work:

    Historical Sites on the Corridor

The corridor features several historical sites that contribute to the character of downtown Saint Paul. The project team is committed to being mindful of the potential impacts on these landmarks. We welcome public input to help prioritize what matters most when considering changes to the roadway. Historic sites along the corridor include:

    • New Astor Theater
    • Eisenmenger Meat Market
    • Fitzgerald Theater (formerly the Sam S. Schubert Theater)
    • Minnesota Arts & Sciences Center
    • History Theatre building
    • Twin Cities Rapid Transit Company Building
    • Colonnade Hotel
    • Minnesota State Capitol Mall Historic District
    • State Veterans Services Building

We are seeking feedback from the community:

    • What place along the corridor holds special meaning to you and why?
    • What features on the street help tell the story of downtown’s history?

Take our online survey to let the team know your priorities
